S0 E05: The Power of a Principal

July 4, 2017

Listen on: iTunes | Google Play | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Overcast

On the pod this week:

Happy 4th of July listeners! We've got some fireworks on the pod for you today as we get into principal autonomy and the different approaches that New York City and Washington, DC are taking in the matter. Should school districts tighten the reins or open the gates? What impact does it have on classrooms and teachers? Does central office oversight just come across as draconian or is it actually the bureaucratic nightmare it seems to be for principals?

Then we hear from two of our listeners, including our first international caller! A teacher at an international school in Mexico is struggling to get her kids to turn stuff in...and Andy goes all science on her with his response. After that, a teacher now in a teacher-leader role wants to make sure she helps her teachers avoid the same mistakes she and her "planning partner" made this year.

Finally, we hear back from two callers in response to S0 E02 and the things we missed while talking about Mayor Rahm's plan to require post-secondary plans for high school graduation.

All this and some super special ads on this week's episode of Class Dismissed!

Leave us a 5-Star rating and review in Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods and SHARE the podcast with your teacher friends who are probably hitting that point in the summer were you need to start reintroducing daily activities just to remind them that it's not entirely socially acceptable to spend all day in pajamas or only eat meals standing in front of the refrigerator door. Class Dismissed can be that something!
