On the pod this week:
Andy's back! With a little bundle of joy named Sophia Alma joining us in the podcast studio! Clearly, that's what Andy's been thinking about, but as for Cristin and Cal:
Then, we welcome the new Assistant Principal at KIPP: Team Academy in Newark, NJ, Wayne Banks, to the pod.
Wayne's been busy acclimating to his new city and new role and reflecting back on his transition into school leadership. He recently completed the Summer Principals' Academy through Teachers' College at Columbia University in NYC. Wayne walks us through his decision to pursue administration and what he sees as the most important parts of making that transition successfully.
Finally, we get a listener email from a principal who is getting repeated complaints from parents about one of her teachers -- the problem...from her vantage point, he's a really strong teacher! What should she do about her conundrum and how should she deal with these complaints? Cal, Cristin, and Andy offer some perspective on how to maintain trust with the parents and students and approach the teacher balancing empathy with the seriousness of the situation.
Got a teaching or principal-ing problem you need some help thinking through? Got a favorite Homecoming Week activity we missed? Want to test Cal's knowledge of late 90's Packers and their jersey numbers? Give us a call at (312) 772-6126 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
