We look into our crystal ball and predict the future of education with Aylon Samouha, co-founder of Transcend Education, a non-profit creating innovative school models with school districts to align K12 schools with 21st century realities.
In many ways, Transcend is looking to shake up the traditional model of schooling. What does that mean for teachers? What does it mean for schools as we know them? Will we get shook by unless we shake up the current education system?
Lots of fascinating implications for what the future of schools and teaching could (and Transcend would argue, should) look like with plenty to discuss further.
Before our conversation with Aylon, we get into a few things that have been on our minds in the past couple of weeks:
Are we all actually just bad at reading? An interesting article in the NYTimes by our favorite cognitive scientist, Daniel Willingham, has us wondering about what it means to be a good reader, what schools need to do about it, and why that matters to much in a society plagued by "fake news" and "alternative facts."
Then we hear from one of our listeners with an issue he's facing in his school.
Experienced teacher. Good relationship. Follows through on action steps. But nothing sticks... Is something wrong with his coaching approach? Or does our teacher lack the vision of what his coach wants his classroom to look like?
